Sweet Time Apiary Picture Archive

Keep your eye on this directory for new pictures. I'll add updates to this page when appropriate. Now, in no particular order.....

open_hive_surgery.jpg Nancy performing open hive surgery. Note that she's not wearing gloves! In this case, we're replacing the bottom deep and shuffling frames around so the bees don't have too much blank foundation to work on. We've subsequently learned to not pile boxes on the ground, it keeps from getting stung on the ankles or better, getting bees up your pants.

hive_12_queen2.jpg. I've got a few pictures of queen bees here. They invariably have names with the string "queen" in them.

sc_comb.jpg is a picture of a frame with half a piece of small cell foundation at the top, which they've drawn reasonably well. The bees get to be creative when it comes to completing the frame- in this case, they've chosen to build drone comb

beam_joint is a picture of 1/2 of a stop-splayed under-squinted wedged 4 pin scarf joint cut on a 7" x 12" pine beam. It's what I do for work.
